Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 10

Jerimiah and Josette cannot be found, and their horses are missing. Jilted groom Barnabas clings to the impossible hope that they are not together. He lurches through the woods searching for Josette, but instead encounters an apparation created by Angelique. The phantom claims to be Jerimiah. He tells Barnabas that he and Josette are together. Naturally.

Because that wasn’t weird enough, a voice tells Barnabas to go to the main road. There he finds Josettes’s mud spattered wedding veil.

To Angelique’s chagrin, Barnabas declares that no matter what Josette has done, he will love her forever.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 9

Josette is told that she must marry Barnabas immediately. The countess warns her that unless she complies, she will lose Barnabas.

As Barnabas and Josette prepare for the wedding, Angelique cooks up another spell. After it is cast, Josette mysteriously disappears,  leaving Barnabas alone at the alter.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 8

The Countess relates to Monsieur Dupree that Joshua is a cat. She further concludes that there is a witch in the house, and voices her suspicions about Vicky.  Nathan Forbes overhears and tries to warn Vicky, but she foolishly ignores him.

The Countess pumps Vicky for information, but has an unfortunate on-camera coughing fit. The coversation concludes with a hoarse accustion that Vicky is involved with the occult.

The countess reviews her Tarot cards and decides that Josette and Barnabas must marry the next day.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 7

Jerimiah decides to take a long trip away from Collinwood.  This disturbs Angelique,  who responds by mumbling something witchy into the fire. The spell prompts Josette to convince Barnabas to talk to Jerimiah and convince him to stay.

Josette loses her desire to be near Jerimiah as Angelique’s spell inexplicably weakens. Faced with such odds, Angelique turns Joshua into a cat so Jerimiah will have to stay behind to mind the family business.

No one can find Joshua and they are befuddled by the cat.  The episode ends with a close up of a well fed tabby.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 6

Naomi obsesses over her nightmare about a woman with a pitchfork on her hand embracing Jerimiah. As these things go, Naomi notices that Josette has the same mark.  The discovery prompts fearful strains from the orchestra.

Nathan Forbes is repelled by Millicent until he learns that she is awash in valuable real estate. He puts aside his distaste and begins pitching the woo.

Josette’s mark disappears, but one appears on Jerimiah’s hand, greatly disturbing the orchestra, which was overwrought to begin with.  As the two work to remove it, Angelique’s spell hits them big time. They become unbearably soppy, kicking the Theremin into high gear.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1- Episode 5

The countess speaks with Josette’s father, Monsieur Dupree, about an occult influence in the house. She insists that an evil force is at work to prevent the marriage of Josette and Barnabas.

Jerimiah catches his mother Naomi getting gassed in the afternoon. As this is not unusual, they converse until interrupted by Monsieur Dupree. Naomi withdraws, leaving the two men to gossip about the racy kiss between Jerimiah and Josette.

That evening, the countess takes a peek at her tarot cards, and once again comes to the conclusion that Vicky is to blame. Angelique orchestrates a dream for Naomi that also suggests that Vicky is to blame. Things are not shaping up well for Vicky, who remains dangerously oblivious.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 4

Jerimiah dithers over whether or not to tell Barnabas about Josette’s pass. After an exchange with a moony Barnabas,  he can’t bring himself to do it.

Ben is dispatched with another toddy for Jerimiah, this one stirs amorous feelings towards Josette.

Josette goes off  into the night seeking Jerimiah, who has had his toddy and is ready for love. They are seen by Josette’s meddling aunt, the Countess Dupree.

Dark Shadows, Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 3

As Angelique’s plan unfolds we learn that her spell’s first effect will make Josette love Jerimiah, while he remains indifferent. This makes no sense of course. She’s evil, remember?

It is an ominous portent that Josette and Barnabas receive a skull with a bad wig as their first wedding gift. They evidently registered with the Johnson Smith catalogue.

Ben tries to tell them that Angelique is to blame, but is overtaken by an amateur dramatics bout of choking. He finds Angelique and waves his hands wildly in agreement when she suggests he obey her in the future.

Later that night, Josette humiliates herself by making a play for Jerimiah. He is bewildered by her sudden passion and sends her away.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 2

Angelique sends Ben on whimsical errands, like obtaining an unbroken spider’s web. Acting as her slave, he has no choice but to go out and get the daft thing.

“Delicate” cousin Millicent (Caroylin) arrives with a satchel of neuroses. Patriarch Joshua is insistent that Jerimiah marry her, even though she is massively annoying.  He is further cool to the deal, since his heart beats only for Vicky.

Angelique has other ideas for Jerimiah: she plans to enchant him into believing that he loves Josette. She dispatches Ben to give him a “love” toddy, giving her time to further bind him to Josette. This can only end in tears.

Dark Shadows: Volume 5, Disc 1 - Episode 1

Vicky insists on greeting 18th century cast members as though they were contemporaries. This, along with her outbursts about the future, make the Countess Dupree suspect that she might be a witch.

Real witch Angelique is caught by clumsy servant Ben picking Deadly Nightshade. This is unfortunante since it could make people believe that she is a witch.  Angelique, however, is more savvy than Vicky. She bats her tremendously long false eyelashes at Ben and the subject is closed.

Meanwhile, Vicky goes to Angelique’s room and finds her voo doo booty: Barnabas’ toy soldier and handkerchief. When Angelique arrives, Vicky quizes her about them. Angelique makes some lame excuses that Vicky immediately swallows. She promises to return the items for Angelique.

The close scrape makes Angelique realize that she needs a protector and servant. She chooses Ben. Using her ancient craft, plus cheesy blue screen effects, her efforts are a rousing success.
